Inspired by research on my own family history, I developed a series of interactive writing workshops to explore the role of memory and materiality in documenting and recovering lived experience. A combination of a multimedia presentation, reflective prompts, and group discussion, each workshop asks participants to examine family archives (photographs, objects, and other heirlooms) and situate them culturally and historically, exploring their significance in the present. Previous workshop themes have included the cultural significance of food, work histories, and storytelling.
