My work using geospatial mapping software in the literature classroom has led to mentoring several student-led projects. Below are two examples of student work:
“We’re Essential Workers” by Jessica Muniz, Ph.D. candidate in History at Duke University explores the role of migrant farmworkers in North Carolina during the Covid 19 pandemic.
“Mapping The Underground Railroad: Documenting Cora’s Journey to Freedom” by Aliyah Weatherington examines the relationship between geography and characterization in Colson Whitehead’s novel, The Underground Railroad.
Students in my honors seminar on graphic narratives produced story maps documenting the history of the IWW in Wobblies!: A Graphic History of the Industrial Workers of the World edited by Paul Buhle and Nicole Schulman. Here are a few examples:
